Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, February 25, 2024 – Vietnam based electric vehicle manufacturer, Vinfast initiates construction of its first integrated electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing facility in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. As per the company, this project will create employment opportunities for approximately 3,500 local workers in the global green transportation strategy.

The ceremony was graced by Thiru M. K. Stalin, Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu; Thiru Dr. T. R. B. Rajaa, Honorable Minister for Industries, Government of Tamil Nadu; Thiru V. Arun Roy IAS, Industries Secretary, Member of Parliament – Thoothukudi constituency; Ministers of state, MLAs (Members of Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu), senior representatives from the State government and the VinFast India leadership team.

The company claims to be investing over USD 500 Million (41 Billion INR ) in the period of 5 years. The facility will be spanning 400 acres within the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) industrial estate with a capacity of 150,000 vehicles annually. This will create jobs for 3,000 to 3,500 local people. The company claimed to work on strengthening partnerships with world-leading suppliers while promoting localization.

VinFast has initiated the construction of a new facility, as announced by Mr. Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast India. The groundbreaking ceremony for the plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, marks a significant step towards promoting sustainable and green mobility in India. By establishing an integrated electric vehicle facility, VinFast aims to contribute to job creation, green transportation, and strategic partnerships in the electric vehicle industry.

Honourable Minister Dr. T. R. B. Rajaa expressed that VinFast’s entry into India aligns with Tamil Nadu’s progressive industrial policies and reinforces its position as a global automotive innovation and manufacturing hub. Tamil Nadu is committed to supporting VinFast’s growth plans and promoting widespread adoption of zero-emission mobility, anticipating positive impacts on local economic development, job opportunities, and technical skill enhancement in the region.

VinFast views India as a key market in its global expansion strategy, leveraging the opportunities presented by the rapidly growing market. The project complements VinFast’s existing manufacturing complex in Vietnam and upcoming plants in the U.S. and Indonesia, contributing to the establishment of a comprehensive global manufacturing ecosystem.
