Uber, the ridesharing platform, has signed an agreement with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) in Bengaluru on February 22, 2024. This partnership aims to expand the range of mobility services offered on the Uber app. The collaboration with ONDC is said to be aligned with Uber’s commitment to providing safe, affordable, and reliable transportation choices for all Indian users.
During an event in Bengaluru, Uber’s global CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, discussed ‘Building Population Scale Technology’ with Nandan Nilekani, Chairman of Infosys. Khosrowshahi emphasized India’s Digital Public Infrastructure’s vast potential and the benefits of open-source technology platforms for technological progress and inclusive opportunities.
Prabhjeet Singh, President of Uber India and South Asia, shared his thoughts on the agreement, stating, “At Uber in India, we aim to meet the mobility needs of all individuals. This collaboration with ONDC aligns with their goal of democratizing digital commerce. Through this agreement, we aim to expedite our efforts in transforming Uber into a platform that caters to the daily mobility needs of every Indian.”
T Koshy, MD & CEO of ONDC, remarked, “The Mobility, Transport, and Travel (MTT) sector plays a crucial role within the evolving Open Network. Collaboration among stakeholders on the platform fosters innovation and the creation of new business models. Today’s agreement marks a significant step forward and is expected to enable a variety of mobility solutions benefiting the Indian population.”
