Atul Greentech Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Atul Auto, announced that it will procure lithium-ion battery packs from EESL’s manufacturing facility located in Prantij, Gujarat. Additionally, the company plans to source battery cells from EESL once production begins at its facility in Bangalore, Karnataka. This partnership is expected to enhance the availability of reliable battery solutions for Atul Greentech’s electric vehicles, thereby improving their performance and sustainability.

“With the integration of domestically manufactured lithium-ion cells, this MoU not only strengthens India’s self-reliance but also sets the stage for a sustainable and innovative future in electric mobility, driving the nation forward,” stated Vijay Kedia, Director at Atul Auto Ltd. The collaboration is anticipated to contribute to the reduction of dependency on imported battery technologies, which has been a significant hurdle for the Indian EV market.

Atul Auto has established a robust presence in both domestic and international markets, supported by a comprehensive dealer network. Atul Greentech focuses on the development and manufacturing of EVs tailored for last-mile mobility solutions, which are crucial for urban transportation and reducing traffic congestion.

EESL, a subsidiary of Exide Industries Limited based in Kolkata, was founded in 2022 to produce lithium-ion cells, modules, and packs. This strategic partnership aligns with the Indian government’s initiatives to promote electric mobility and reduce carbon emissions, further bolstering EESL’s role in the EV battery supply chain.

“The proposed arrangement reinforces both companies’ dedication to advancing the electric vehicle industry by guaranteeing a consistent and reliable supply of lithium-ion battery packs and technology,” remarked Mandar V Deo, Joint Managing Director at EESL. He also noted that Exide has been a longstanding supplier of batteries for Atul Auto’s conventional vehicle range. This continuity in supply is expected to facilitate a smoother transition for Atul Auto as it expands its electric vehicle offerings, ultimately contributing to the broader goal of sustainable transportation in India.
